Join us for a screening and panel discussion of the award-winning documentary “ZERO WEEKS.” Examining paid family leave from an emotional, health, economic, and global perspective, “ZERO WEEKS” shows us why every American should have the right to paid leave to care for themselves and be there when their family needs them most.
This event will highlight the state and national movement for Paid Family Leave, raise awareness about the push for universal fully paid leave in Berkeley and support the California Work & Family Coalition’s work of making paid family leave a reality for all Californians.

The History of Paid Family Leave in California
California’s Paid Family Leave program provides 6 weeks of partial wage replacement to workers who take time to care for a seriously ill family member or to bond with a new child. Over 2 million California workers have benefitted from Paid Family Leave since the law was implemented in 2004. Since it’s passage, Coalition organizations have worked to expand access to Paid Family Leave through education, outreach, and policy change
The California Work & Family Coalition is a statewide alliance of community organizations, unions, non-profits, and individuals dedicated to helping parents, caregivers, and families thrive.
About Berkeley's Paid Family Leave Ordinance
Berkeley City Councilmember Ben Bartlett introduced a city ordinance in 2018 that would help more low-income workers benefit from Paid Family Leave by requiring employers to fill the gap between the current wage replacement and the employee’s full pay.
